EHS Coordinator / Quality Technician Job Overview

ATL Search Group is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator / Quality Technician to support an automotive manufacturing operation. This dual-function position is responsible for promoting a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace while supporting the facility’s quality management systems, manufacturing processes, and cus tomer requirements. The selected candidate will ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, environmental standards, company policies, and automotive quality requirements.

This position will conduct safety and quality audits, investigate workplac e incidents and product concerns, analyze operational data, maintain regulatory documentation, and support corrective and preventive actions throughout the facility. The role requires flexibility to provide EHS and quality support across a 24/7, three-shif t manufacturing operation.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental, Health and Safety Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, local, and company environmental, health, and safety requirements.
• Conduct routine workplace safety inspections and compliance audits across all three production shifts.
• Identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, processes, and potential environmental risks.
• Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, environmental incidents, an d employee safety concerns.
• Determine root causes and develop appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain OSHA logs, incident reports, inspection records, training documentation, and other required EHS records.
• Coordinate employee safety traini ng, new-hire safety orientation, and onboarding safety programs.
• Lead or participate in employee safety committees and facility-wide safety initiatives.
• Conduct Job Hazard Analyses, risk assessments, and workplace safety evaluations.
• Monitor emergency resp onse equipment and ensure emergency procedures remain current and effective.
• Support emergency preparedness drills and response activities.
• Manage hazardous waste identification, handling, labeling, storage, documentation, and disposal.
• Ensure employees pr operly use personal protective equipment and comply with established safety procedures.
• Support workers’ compensation cases and return-to-work programs.
• Track, analyze, and report EHS metrics, incident trends, training completion rates, and compliance data.
• Promote employee participation in near-miss reporting and proactive hazard identification.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives designed to stren gthen the facility’s safety culture.

Quality Technician Responsibilities

• Perform product, process, and manufacturing audits according to customer specifications and internal quality requirements.
• Conduct first-piece, in-process, and final product inspectio ns.
• Use precision measuring and inspection equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, gauges, and CMM reports.
• Verify product and process compliance with drawings, specifications, control plans, work instructions, and customer requirements.
• Review and interpret technical drawings, dimensional requirements, and manufacturing specifications.
• Investigate internal quality concerns, customer complaints, process deviations, and product nonconformances.
• Support containment activities when quality i ssues are identified.
• Participate in root cause analysis using quality problem-solving tools, including: o 8D methodology o 5 Why analysis o Fishbone diagrams o Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
• Assist with the development, implementation, and verification of corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor scrap, rework, defect, and nonconformance trends.
• Analyze quality data and recommend opportunities for process improvement.
• Maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, audit documentation, and corre ctive action records.
• Support customer audits, internal audits, and third-party certification audits.
• Verify process compliance with applicable IATF 16949 requirements.
• Support Layered Process Audits and follow up on identified findings.
• Participate in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Help improve product quality, reduce defects, and strengthen customer satisfaction.

Cross-Functional Support

• Provide EHS and quality support across first, second, and third shifts as operational needs require.
• Coordinate safety and quality communications between supervisors and production teams across all shifts.
• Assist with new product launches, manufacturing process changes, equipment installations, and new product introductions.
• Wo rk closely with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Human Resources, Quality, and Management teams.
• Participate in plant-wide safety, quality, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement projects.
• Support timely communication and resolution of safety incidents, quality concerns, audit findings, and production issues.
• Help ensure consistent application of safety and quality standards throughout the facility.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two to five years of expe rience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry safety compliance requirements.
• Experience with manufacturing safety practices, workplace inspections, and incident investigations.
• Experience wit h automotive quality systems, inspection processes, and customer quality requirements.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment and interpreting inspection results.
• Knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive action processes.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, control plans, and work instructions.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong o rganizational, documentation, and recordkeeping abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Quality, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Knowledge of IATF 16949 automotive quality management requirements.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management systems.
• Experience supporting customer, internal, and third-party certification audits.
• Experience with SAP or a similar enterprise resource planning system.
• Experience with Layered Process Audits.
• Experience supporting lean manufacturing or continuous improvement programs.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods throughout a manufacturing facility.

• Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, machinery, production activity, and elevated noise levels.

Work Schedule

• Must be available to support a 24/7 automotive manufacturing operation with three production shifts.
• A flexible schedule is required to respond to workplace incidents, safety investigations, quality concerns, audits, production issues, and emergency situa tions.
• Occasional weekend and overtime work may be required.
• The employee may be required to adjust working hours to provide support during first, second, or third shift.
